As some of you may remember, this year I had two hedgehog problem children whom I had to put into professional medical care due to injuries that were probably caused by lawn trimmers (brushcutters).
I am sure you have already asked yourselves what has become of the two hedgehogs in the meantime.
First of all, the hedgehogs are still in the care of the “Päpplerin”. There were personal reasons why the hedgehogs could not yet return to my garden.
But today I got a feedback about the current condition of both hedgehogs.
Both cases of care are now doing very well again. The first patient had the injury in the back area, which also affected one of the back legs. But in the meantime the hedgehog has been outdoors and has exercised his leg. As a male it is time for him to hibernate. He has probably dozed for a few days already. By the way he is a very clean representative. He keeps his sleeping quarters as well as the surroundings always very clean. This is not a matter of course for a hedgehog 🙂 Now he will soon go to his winter quarters. A release into my garden is out of question this year. It is seasonally already too late for that.
Also the little lady hedgehog is doing very well again. The injury, she had a head injury, has healed so well that you can hardly see anything (see photo). Only the slightly lighter stings still indicate the former injury.
She has increased from 236g in the beginning to a weight of 651g. At the moment she is still in the deworming process. Also the lady hedgehog will not come back this year. She too spends the winter in her winter quarters and next spring both of them can explore the gardens here with new energy.
Then both sleep well and get through the winter well.
