As suspected, today was the big day for the little great tits.
In the late morning there was no stopping them and the call of the big wide world became louder and louder.
And so, at 11:18 am, the first chick dared to take the plunge into a new phase of its life.
Within a short time, the other seven chicks followed, and at 11:25 a.m. the last great tit chick left the box, which had been a safe home for the little ones for the first 20 days of their lives.
Let’s hope that the little ones are doing well out there and are safe from the many dangers that await young bird babies.
I will now clean the nest box and with a bit of luck we may see another brood.
It’s not uncommon for great tits to breed a second time in the spring.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed…
